Television actor Shilpa Shinde has made a startling confession nearly a decade after her highly publicised fallout with the makers of Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. In a recent conversation with comedian Bharti Singh and writer-producer Haarsh Limbachiyaa, Shilpa revealed that the sexual harassment complaint she filed against the show’s producer, Sanjay Kohli, was not genuine.
The actor said she resorted to filing the case during a difficult phase of her professional life when she was trying to exit the popular sitcom and found herself trapped in a contractual dispute. According to Shilpa, she felt she had exhausted all other options and believed legal action was the only way to break free from the situation.
Recalling the controversy, Shilpa explained that authorities often insist on serious allegations before registering a formal complaint, which influenced her decision at the time. She admitted that the move eventually helped her reach a settlement and recover pending payments that were owed to her.
Shilpa also expressed regret over the impact the allegations had on producer Sanjay Kohli’s reputation. She acknowledged that he suffered public criticism because of the case and said she had always intended to reveal the truth if given the opportunity.
Calling the admission one of the most difficult things she has ever spoken about publicly, the actor said carrying the burden of a lie was not easy. She maintained that the circumstances she was facing then pushed her into making a decision she would later regret.
The controversy dates back to 2016, when Shilpa abruptly exited Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain and accused the producers of harassment, non-payment of dues and creating an unhealthy work environment. The dispute escalated into a legal battle, with the show’s makers accusing her of unprofessional conduct and seeking compensation for losses caused by her departure.
Years later, the matter was resolved, and in 2025, Shilpa returned to Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. She has since stated that her relationship with the show’s team has improved and that she agreed to return largely because of her respect for the show’s writer.
