Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, is likely to release in India a day before its overseas debut, with multiple reports suggesting that the makers are planning a July 23 release. If confirmed, the H Vinoth directorial will get an extended four-day opening weekend in India.
The makers have not officially announced the Indian release date, but the film’s UK distributor, Ahimsa Entertainment, has confirmed a July 24 overseas release, with advance bookings already underway. Reports now indicate that the film may arrive in Indian theatres on July 23.
The speculation comes days after Jana Nayagan completed its censor formalities. The film has received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, with a reported runtime of 3 hours and 3 minutes.
The possibility of a July 23 release emerged after overseas distributors were reportedly asked to prepare for a July 24 rollout. Industry trackers later suggested that the film could release a day earlier in India, a strategy often followed by major Tamil films to maximise opening weekend collections.
If the date is finalised, Jana Nayagan will have a four-day opening weekend before the regular working week begins, giving the film more time for advance bookings and fan celebrations.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s farewell film as he moves into politics full-time after a 33-year-long cinema career. The film features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Narain in key roles. The music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
With censor approval completed and overseas bookings open, attention is now on the makers’ official announcement regarding the Indian release date.
