Morea was allowed to leave after the questioning, though investigators may call him again if required, an EOW official said.
The probe centres on a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) project involving the removal of sludge from the Mithi River using specialised equipment, including sludge pushers and dredging machines. The equipment was procured from Kochi-based Matprop Technical Services Private Limited.
According to police sources, investigators suspect that key accused Ketan Kadam and Jay Joshi colluded with officials of Matprop and the BMC’s Storm Water Drains department to allegedly divert funds through inflated bills and costs.
Morea came under the investigators’ scanner after call detail records linked Kadam with the actor and his brother. Police are also examining alleged financial transactions between Morea and Kadam to determine the nature of their association and whether it has any connection to the case.
The actor’s questioning is part of the effort to establish the circumstances surrounding these dealings and assess whether he had any role in the alleged financial irregularities.
The case is also being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with suspected money laundering under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
