Hyderabad: Telangana has recorded a sharp decline in digital arrest scams, with cases dropping by nearly 60% over the past two years, while also emerging as the best-performing state in converting cybercrime complaints into FIRs, according to the latest National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) report for January-June 2026.
The report shows that digital arrest cases in Telangana fell from 3,037 in 2024 to 1,270 in 2025. The downward trend has continued this year, with only 449 cases reported during the first six months of 2026. Financial losses linked to these scams also declined by 47% compared to the previous year.
Overall, cyber fraud victims in Telangana lost ₹616 crore between January and June 2026. During the same period, authorities received 45,080 cybercrime complaints and registered 7,467 FIRs. With a complaint-to-FIR conversion rate of 16.56%, Telangana has recorded the highest conversion rate in the country, significantly higher than the national average of 1.56%. Officials say the higher number of FIRs has helped investigators identify fraudsters faster, make arrests and dismantle interstate cybercrime networks.
The NCRP data also shows Telangana accounted for 3.5% of cybercrime complaints reported across India, ranking 11th nationally. While the state ranked sixth in terms of financial losses, it is no longer among the country’s worst-affected regions for cyber fraud.
The report also points to an improvement in tackling investment frauds. Such complaints declined from 23,033 in 2024 to 22,340 in 2025, while financial losses in these cases fell by 19%. In the first half of 2026, Telangana recorded 6,738 investment fraud complaints.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has strengthened its response by freezing stolen funds before they are withdrawn. The proportion of defrauded money put on hold increased from 18% in the second half of 2025 to 28% during January-June 2026, reflecting quicker intervention and improved coordination in handling cyber fraud cases.
