Hyderabad: A woman residing in Miyapur fell victim to a fake stock trading scheme and lost ₹80.97 lakh after being lured through a WhatsApp group operated by fraudsters.
According to the victim, the incident began on January 10, 2026, when she was added to a WhatsApp group by an unknown person. In the group, a man posing as a “professor” offered stock market training and investment tips, claiming to deliver high returns.
To gain her trust, the accused shared a link to a mobile application that allegedly facilitated stock trading with assured profits. Initially, the woman invested ₹1 lakh and received returns, which convinced her of the platform’s legitimacy. Encouraged by the early gains, she continued investing larger sums over time.
In total, she transferred ₹80.97 lakh. The app displayed inflated returns, showing her investment had grown to ₹3.99 crore. However, when she attempted to withdraw the funds, she was unable to do so.
Realising she had been defrauded, the woman approached the Cyberabad Cybercrime Police Station and lodged a complaint. A case has been registered, and an investigation is currently underway.
