According to police officials, Verma used fake profiles to befriend women online, gain their trust, and persuade them to share personal photos and videos. He later used this material to threaten the victims, demanding money in exchange for not circulating the content on social media or sending it to their relatives.
During the arrest, police recovered a mobile phone containing several obscene videos, WhatsApp chats, and multiple fake Facebook accounts linked to the crime.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West District) DS Bhaskar said that the investigation is ongoing to identify possible accomplices and to verify the use of additional mobile numbers and social media accounts connected to Verma.
Police have urged social media users, especially women, to remain cautious while interacting online and to immediately report any instances of digital blackmail or harassment.
