A 25-year-old bakery worker in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district allegedly died by suicide after losing ₹15 lakh in the FQL investment scam, police said.
K Raja, a resident of Kasampatti village, was reportedly introduced to the FQL app by friends who promised high returns. After failing to receive returns, Raja allegedly encouraged his parents, relatives and others to invest, hoping to earn commissions.
When the scheme was exposed as fraudulent, people who had invested through him reportedly confronted Raja and demanded their money back. Distressed by the situation, he did not report to work on Monday. Villagers later found him dead near a tree around 4 pm.
Following his death, Raja’s relatives protested on the Natham-Madurai National Highway, demanding that the money lost in the scam be recovered.
Meanwhile, hundreds of alleged FQL investors gathered outside the house of a suspected agent in Natham after rumours surfaced that money had been hidden in a septic tank. Police brought in sanitary workers to search the tank, but no cash or valuables were found.
