Coldplay at First Global Citizen Festival in India

Date:

The first-ever Global Citizen Festival in India will feature headlining sets from Jay Z, Coldplay and Demi Lovato. According to a spokesperson for the November 19 show in Mumbai at the MMRDA Grounds – Bandra Kurla Complex confirmed that it will also mix in some Bollywood actors and Indian musicians at what will be Jay and Coldplay’s first-ever gigs in India. Coldplay singer Chris Martin is in the midst of a 15-year gig as curator of the Global Citizen Fest, which has taken place in New York annually since 2012.

“With over half a million young Indians taking over 1.8 million actions in support of our campaigns, earning their free tickets for the inaugural Global Citizen India Festival, it is exhilarating to see that the youth of India won’t wait for change,” Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be launching this 15 year journey to end extreme poverty in India with the support of Coldplay, Jay Z and Demi Lovato and incredible Indian superstars like A.R. Rahman and Farhan Akhtar.”

Like the Global Citizen events held in New York, the India Global Citizen gathering will offer free tickets to people who do social tasks as part of the festival’s Action Journey, a series of challenges to promote social good. Using the Ketto crowdfunding site, the show will aim to raise funds for children without parents and for 25 children’s homes in India. Jay Z and Coldplay headlined the New York version of the fest in 2014 and 2015, respectively and Lovato played at the 2016 edition in September.

Actor Aamir Khan, Oscar-winning film composer A.R. Rahman, Arijit Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Dia Mirza, Farhan Akhtar, Freida Pinto, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Katrina Kaif, Monali Thakur, Ranveer Singh, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Shraddha Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Malaika Arora Khan, Parineeti Chopra, Sachin Tendulkar, Sakshi Malik, Sonakshi Sinha, Shah Rukh Khan, Vijender Singh and more Indian artists are expected to appear at the festival.
