The 91st annual Academy Awards was a night of firsts and surprises with no host for the first time in 30 years. The announcements by Randy Thomas held the ceremony together.
‘Green Book’ took home the Oscar for the best picture delivering a surprise by defeating contenders like ‘Roma’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘The Favourite.’
The opening act was a performance by the band Queen along with Adam Lambert followed by a monologue by Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper performed the track ‘Shallow’ from their Oscar-nominated film ‘A Star is Born.’

For the first time awards for best costuming and best production went to African American nominees. Alfonso Cuaron’s ‘Roma’ won best foreign film, the first time a Mexican film has ever won an Oscar in this category. Spike Lee was greeted with a standing ovation as the film industry veteran took the stage to claim his first Oscar for best-adapted screenplay for his work on ‘BlacKkKlansman.’
