Lucknow: Three people, including an 18-month-old boy, were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday as floods affected 22 districts and authorities evacuated 1,528 people.
The government said 742 flood posts, 452 boats and motorboats and 225 medical teams were deployed, while 2,460 people stayed in 105 relief shelters.
The affected districts include Ayodhya, Ballia, Barabanki, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Prayagraj, Sitapur, Unnao and Varanasi, among others.
In Pratapgarh, Priyansh died after a kutcha house collapsed in Chhoti Kothariya village, while in Amroha, Shera, 32, and Suresh, 55, died after a shop roof projection collapsed. Authorities are investigating the cause.
In Chitrakoot, around 150 people trapped by the swollen Mandakini river were rescued by PAC teams. Ballia remained severely affected, with Ganga and Saryu waters impacting about 20,500 people.
Relief teams distributed food, medicines, fodder and livestock vaccines, while NDRF and PAC personnel remained deployed.
In Pilibhit, rising rivers and barrage releases submerged a bridge serving 18 villages. Schools for Classes 1-8 were shut, while the 200-bed medical college ran on generators after flooding disrupted power for over 34 hours.
In Lakhimpur Kheri, officials intensified erosion-control measures and ordered relocation of vulnerable residents.
The state also distributed foodgrains, cooked meals, chlorine and ORS supplies. Ghaziabad remained under a yellow alert for heavy rain and lightning till September 4, with authorities urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and hazardous areas.
