8 Relatives Died In Delhi Fire, Patriarch’s Death Wipes Out Entire Family

Date:

New Delhi: The Aggarwal family, which lost eight members in the hotel fire in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar last week, has now suffered another tragedy. The family’s only surviving member, 80-year-old Radhe Shyam Aggarwal, passed away on Tuesday, leaving no living member of the immediate family behind.

The patriarch had remained admitted to Max Hospital in Saket and was unaware of the tragedy that had unfolded just a few hundred metres away. His family had been staying at the Flourish Inn, a bed-and-breakfast hotel that later caught fire.

Radhe Shyam Aggarwal had been repeatedly inquiring about the absence of his family members at the hospital, unaware of what had happened.

Vivek Aggarwal, his mother Prem Lata Aggarwal, his wife Tarjani Aggarwal, his two daughters Jivisha and Varya, and three other relatives had been staying at the hotel to attend to the patriarch.

The family had chosen to stay there considering traffic conditions and the distance between their residence and the hospital, making it easier to meet his needs.

According to relatives, the patriarch had been suffering from a respiratory ailment and was admitted to the intensive care unit. The family had also been informed of his declining health and advised to be mentally prepared for the worst.

On the day of the tragedy, the family was expected to visit him at 11:30 am during hospital visiting hours.

Vivek Aggarwal’s elder daughter, Jivisha, an engineering student in Bengaluru, had travelled to Delhi specifically to see her grandfather.

According to relatives, Radhe Shyam Aggarwal had proudly told nurses that his granddaughter had come from Bengaluru to meet him. What was expected to be a final meeting between granddaughter and grandfather ultimately turned out differently.

The latest death leaves the family’s home in Gurugram Sector 46 completely vacant. With no immediate family member surviving, the tragedy has left relatives grieving the loss of nine family members within a week.
