A fatal explosion at a Vedanta Limited power plant in Chhattisgarh has resulted in multiple casualties, with authorities confirming 9 deaths and 15 injuries among workers.
The incident occurred in Singhitarai, around 230 kilometres from the state capital, Raipur, within Sakti district. According to police officials, the blast is suspected to have been triggered by overheating in a boiler tube.
Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur stated that the explosion took place in the afternoon, killing several workers and injuring others. Some victims died instantly at the site, while others succumbed to their injuries in hospitals.
Rescue teams, along with local administration and police, rushed to the location immediately after the incident to search for survivors and assist the injured. Those hurt have been admitted to medical facilities in nearby Raigarh district.
Following the blast, workers and staff were evacuated from the area, which remains extremely hot, as authorities continue monitoring the situation.
