The death toll from the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 in Ahmedabad on June 14 has climbed to 274, according to media reports. The victims include 241 passengers and airline crew members onboard, along with 33 people on the ground who lost their lives when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner went down shortly after takeoff.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson announced that the airline, along with its parent company Tata Sons, will jointly provide financial assistance of over ₹1.25 crore to the families of the deceased. This includes ₹1 crore from Tata Sons and an interim compensation of ₹25 lakh from Air India.
“Air India will be providing an interim payment of ₹25 lakh to the families of the deceased and to the survivor,” the airline confirmed via a post on its official handle on X (formerly Twitter).

In addition to financial aid, the airline has committed to covering all medical expenses for the injured, including students from B.J. Medical College who were in the crash impact zone.
Wilson also reiterated the airline’s full cooperation with the ongoing investigation and pledged long-term support to the affected families. “We know that the investigations will take time, but we will be fully transparent and will support the process for as long as it takes,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat State Branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written to Tata Sons Chairman, urging the conglomerate to provide continued financial and humanitarian assistance to the medical students impacted by the crash.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are still underway. The aircraft’s black box has been recovered and is currently being analyzed by aviation authorities.
