Gurugram: A trainee air hostess has alleged she was sexually assaulted while in a semi-conscious state inside the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Gurugram, prompting a police investigation.
The woman, who had been admitted to the facility on April 5 after a near-drowning incident during a training exercise, told police the alleged assault occurred the next day, while she was on a ventilator and unable to resist. She said two staff nurses were present in the ICU at the time but did not intervene.
The complaint was filed on April 14, a day after she informed her husband about the incident. She was discharged from the hospital on April 13.
According to police, the accused is a member of the hospital’s ward staff. The woman claims she was in a weakened condition and only partially conscious during the incident.
“A woman filed a complaint on April 14 at Sadarpur Police Station. The complainant said she was on a ventilator… that she was unconscious at the time of the incident,” Assistant Sub Inspector Sandeep said. “She also said two staff nurses were talking to each other during the incident. CCTV footage from the hospital is being checked. The case is being investigated.”
The hospital, in a statement released Monday, acknowledged that an allegation had been made and said it is “fully cooperating with investigations conducted by the relevant authorities.” It confirmed that CCTV footage and the patient’s medical records have been handed over to the police.
“No allegations have been substantiated at this stage,” the hospital added.
