National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held a series of bilateral meetings with senior leaders from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bangladesh and Myanmar on Wednesday ahead of the fifth BIMSTEC National Security Advisers’ Meeting in New Delhi.


During his meeting with Sri Lanka’s Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), Doval discussed cooperation in defence, security and maritime affairs, while also exchanging views on regional and global security issues.
In talks with Thailand’s National Security Council Secretary General Chatchai Bangchuad, both sides reviewed bilateral security cooperation and explored ways to strengthen the India-Thailand strategic partnership through intelligence sharing, law enforcement, connectivity and new institutional mechanisms.
Doval also met Myanmar’s National Security Adviser U Tin Aung San, where both leaders reviewed bilateral security cooperation and discussed regional security matters.
He further held discussions with Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, Defence Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
The meetings come as India continues to strengthen cooperation with neighbouring countries. The fifth BIMSTEC National Security Advisers’ Meeting will be hosted by India in New Delhi on Thursday.
