Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has officially stepped down from his post, submitting his resignation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday. Kejriwal, accompanied by Atishi, met with the Lieutenant Governor earlier today. During the meeting, Kejriwal handed in his resignation, while Atishi staked her claim to form the new government.

- AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal proposed Atishi’s name for the new Chief Minister of Delhi.
- Ms Atishi currently holds key portfolios in the Delhi government such as Education and Public Works Department. An Oxford University alumnus and a Rhodes scholar, Ms Atishi has worked extensively in the AAP’s flagship exercise to overhaul education in Delhi’s schools.
- After he received bail from Supreme Court in the Delhi excise policy case on Friday, Arvind Kejriwal, sent shock waves all across by announcing that he would step down from the Chief Minister’s post.
- On Sunday, the AAP convenor announced that he would resign in the next two days. “I got justice from the legal court, now I will get justice from the people’s court… I want to ask the people of Delhi, is Kejriwal innocent or guilty? If I have worked, vote for me,” he added.
- Former Deputy CM, Manish Sisodia, had also taken a similar vow earlier stating that he is also out of the equation. Sisodia was also arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case and was in jail for 18 months before getting bail.
