Date:

New Delhi: Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad and his aide Ghulam both of whom were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, have been killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi. Addressing media persons, Special DG, Law & Order, Uttar Pradesh, Prashant Kumar said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against mafia, the result of which is before everyone today.

Asad and his aide Ghulam carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh each. The UP STF team led by Deputy SP Navendu and Vimal also recovered sophisticated foreign-made weapons from the accused, Special Additional Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said.

Hours after the encounter killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad and his aide Ghulam, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the UP Special Task Force team at a meeting on law and order on Thursday, news agency ANI reported.

Meanwhile, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said the BJP-led UP government is trying to divert attention from real issues by doing fake encounters.

“By doing false encounters, the BJP government is trying to divert attention from the real issues. The BJP does not believe in the court at all. Today’s and recent encounters should also be thoroughly investigated, and the culprits should not be spared. The power does not have the right to decide what is right or wrong,” said former UP chief minister.
