Assam: The flood situation in Assam remains severe, with the death toll rising to 78 and seven districts continuing to remain affected by inundation, according to the latest data.
The flood-hit districts include Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Biswanath, and Kamrup (Metro). Floodwaters have impacted 21 Revenue Circles and 551 villages, affecting around 3,00,031 people. More than 21,523 hectares of crop area have also been damaged across the affected districts.
In the ongoing flood situation, three more deaths have been reported, including two from Sivasagar and one from Golaghat, taking the total number of flood-related fatalities in the state to 78.
Kamrup Metro has also been affected by urban flooding, with three Revenue Circles and several localities impacted, including Padumbari, Boragaon, Lachit Nagar, Zoo Road, Rukminigaon, Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Satgaon, Beharbari, Hatigaon, Wireless, Jorabat, and Kamarkuchi near Zubeen Khetra. However, no population has been reported affected by urban flooding in the district.
Meanwhile, Assam Ministers flagged off 30 trucks carrying relief materials for flood-affected areas. The vehicles, accompanied by Assam Gana Parishad MPs, MLAs, senior officials, and Assam Police personnel, carried food supplies, clothing, and other essential items.
Assam Minister Atul Bora said the government has provided ₹15,000 assistance per affected family and continues relief operations. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also stated that the government and people of Assam are working together to help flood-hit families rebuild their lives.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the flood situation with Assam MPs and assured that the Centre is working closely with the state government to provide relief and support.
