New Delhi: Assam Police, assisted by Delhi authorities, conducted a search at Congress leader Pawan Khera’s Nizamuddin East residence on Tuesday, following allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife.
The searches came after Khera, chief of Congress Media and Publicity Department, claimed in a Sunday press conference that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma holds three passports and that the family has business interests worth Rs 52,000 crore in the United States.
In response, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma lodged an FIR on Monday, triggering the police action.
Khera was not at home during the search, as party sources said he was in Hyderabad. Assam CM Sarma dismissed Khera’s allegations, stating, “He ran away to Hyderabad. The law will take its own course,” and indicated plans to file a defamation case against the Congress leader.
Assam Police confirmed that the house was searched and “some objectionable documents” were recovered. Authorities emphasized that no arrests were made, and the operation concluded by 1 p.m. Tuesday.
