In a shocking development in the death case of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, his cousin Sandipan Garg, a senior officer with the Assam Police Service (APS), has been arrested by the Special Investigation Team of the CID.
Sandipan Garg, who currently serves as Superintendent of Police (In-Charge), was taken into custody for questioning after investigators found inconsistencies in his statements regarding the events leading up to Zubeen’s death in Singapore last month.
Zubeen Garg tragically passed away on September 19 during the Northeast India Festival in Singapore, just hours before his scheduled performance. Reports indicate that Sandipan had accompanied him on the trip and was present at the time of the incident.
The investigation has now widened its scope to include 11 NRIs of Assamese origin who were allegedly part of a yacht party with Zubeen before his mysterious drowning. Authorities believe these individuals could provide crucial information about the final hours before the tragedy.
According to the sources, the SIT, in coordination with the Indian High Commission in Singapore and local police, has issued summons to all 11 witnesses. They have been directed to join the investigation by October, as officials continue to piece together the sequence of events that led to the singer’s untimely demise.
