Tuesday was recorded as the hottest April day in Srinagar in nearly eight decades at 30.4 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological department officials said the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded the highest-ever maximum temperature of 31.1 degrees Celsius on April 20, 1946.
Director MeT, Srinagar, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4°C, the second-highest ever for the month of April. The all-time highest April temperature in the city remains 31.1°C, recorded on April 20, 1946, he said.
The officials said the mercury significantly rose on Tuesday, with the weather stations in the Kashmir valley registering 8.1 to 11.2 degrees above normal temperature.
The meteorological department said the weather in the valley is likely to stay generally dry till April 17.
It added that from April 18-20, light to moderate rain/snow is possible in the higher reaches at most places, with moderate to heavy rain in isolated to scattered places.
