At least 8 people have been killed and 28 others injured as a three-storey building collapsed in Transport Nagar, Lucknow. According to officials, those injured were quickly taken to Lok Bandhu Hospital in the state capital for treatment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter). “The loss of lives due to a building mishap in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh is saddening. Prayers with those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased victim. Additionally, Rs. 50,000 will be provided to those injured in the incident.

Lucknow Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Amit Verma said that a committee will be formed to investigate the reasons for the building collapse.
The accident took place around 5 PM. The building, which was being used as a godown, had a motor workshop and storage space on the ground floor, a medical supplies warehouse on the first floor, and a cutlery warehouse on the second floor.
According to reports, construction work was underway when the building collapsed. The structure was built around four years ago, according to the police.
“Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed to the scene and are working to extricate the trapped individuals,” Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar stated.
Lucknow’s MP and Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, was also updated on the incident and he inquired about the relief efforts and the condition of the injured.
