Siwan: The alleged use of an AK-47 rifle during a student protest in Bihar’s Siwan district has triggered a political controversy, with opposition leaders accusing the government of using excessive force against demonstrators.
The controversy erupted after a viral video allegedly showed a police constable carrying an AK-47 during the July 25 protest. The constable was suspended and an inquiry was ordered. Police said no one was injured and personnel were instructed not to open fire, while reports claimed some students sustained injuries.
Rahul Gandhi Attacks Centre, Demands PM Apology
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accused the government of “brutalising” students and demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He alleged that students were being targeted through arrests, FIRs and excessive force, questioning the government’s earlier assurance that no cases would be filed against protesters. Gandhi also compared the alleged AK-47 incident in Bihar with the reported use of pellet guns during protests in Delhi.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Questions Use of Weapons

Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah over who authorised the alleged use of AK-47s in Bihar and pellet guns in Delhi. Congress MP Manish Tewari said such force could not be justified against peaceful protesters and called the incident “barbaric and inhuman,” citing Supreme Court guidelines on handling demonstrations.

Tejashwi Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal Condemn Alleged Action
Bihar Assembly Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav alleged that police fired AK-47 rifles at protesters in Siwan. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal also criticised the government, warning authorities not to “mess with students” and demanding accountability.
