Punjab: Punjab was placed on high alert after two back-to-back explosions near key security installations triggered panic and raised serious concerns over safety in the sensitive border state.
The blasts occurred in Jalandhar and Amritsar, including one close to a Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters. While no casualties have been reported, police and central agencies have launched a detailed investigation.
The first explosion took place near the BSF headquarters at Jalandhar’s BSF Chowk, where a parked scooter suddenly exploded in a busy area. Eyewitnesses reported that the scooter caught fire immediately after the blast, sending people running for safety as panic spread across the locality.
Hours later, a second explosion was reported late Tuesday night in Amritsar’s Khasa area, outside an Army camp located near BSF installations. Preliminary suspicion suggests a motorcycle-borne attacker may have hurled a grenade at the site. The location is around 15 kilometres from the Attari-Wagah Border.
The explosion near the Border Security Force headquarters in Jalandhar is deeply alarming. A blast in a delivery scooter in a crowded area exposes a serious collapse of law and order.

Amritsar Rural Police SP Aditya Warrier confirmed the timing of the incident. “We are verifying the exact details. Forensic teams are also at the site and all aspects are being examined,” he said.
CCTV footage from Jalandhar captured the moment of the explosion, showing flames erupting instantly and debris scattering across the road. A man standing near the scooter was seen fleeing seconds after the blast. Officials believe some fragments could be parts of the vehicle itself.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur urged caution. “Prima facie, the facts are that a scooter parked here caught fire. We are still verifying the situation on the ground,” she said.
According to PTI, the scooter rider, identified as Gurpreet Singh, a delivery agent, said the vehicle caught fire as he approached it. He immediately alerted his family.
Political reactions followed swiftly. Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said, “A blast in a delivery scooter in a crowded area exposes a serious collapse of law and order. Punjab is a sensitive border state; such incidents raise grave national security concerns.”
Authorities continue to probe the incidents, with forensic teams, dog squads, and bomb disposal units deployed. The exact cause remains under investigation.
