BREAKING: 8 Dead, Several Injured In Explosion Near Delhi’s Red Fort

New Delhi: Eight people lost their lives, and multiple others were injured after a massive explosion in a Hyundai i20 car near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station on Monday. According to doctors at LNJP Hospital, several of the injured remain in critical condition while authorities investigate the cause of the explosion.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives and said that the injured were being provided with all possible assistance. “Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the blast in Delhi earlier this evening. May the injured recover at the earliest. Those affected are being assisted by authorities. Reviewed the situation with Home Minister Amit Shah Ji and other officials,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.

  • The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has issued a high alert across the country—including airports, Delhi Metro, heritage sites, government buildings and other key installations under its security cover.

  • Reacting to the incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car and that teams from multiple security agencies were immediately mobilised.
  • “This evening, around 7 pm, a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi. The blast injured some pedestrians and damaged some vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives,” Shah said.

  • The Home Minister also stated that he has spoken with the Delhi Police Commissioner and the Special Branch in charge. “We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation. All options will be investigated immediately and we will present the results to the public. I will be heading to the spot shortly and will also visit the hospital immediately,” Shah said.

  • A forensic team, along with the National Investigation Agency, reached the site to investigate the incident.

  • A former counter-terror official told NewsMobile that over 8 casualties were reported and the Red Fort was chosen to create panic and create high impact.
  • This blast impacts India’s record as a safe country from terror and damages the central government’s credentials since Delhi Police is under the Union Government.
  • According to the medical superintendent of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, fifteen people have been brought to Lok Nayak Hospital. Eight of them died before reaching the hospital. Three are seriously injured. One is in stable condition.
  • According to officials, the vehicle burst into flames soon after the blast, sending up thick plumes of smoke visible from a distance. Several nearby vehicles reportedly caught fire and sustained damage before firefighters brought the situation under control.
  • A spokesperson for the Delhi Fire Department confirmed that a call regarding the incident was received around evening hours. “An explosion was reported in a car near the Red Fort Metro Station. Three to four vehicles nearby also caught fire and were damaged. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and contained the blaze promptly,” the official said.
