The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a fresh protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign, party founder Abhijeet Dipke said after leading a demonstration at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park.
“If Gyanesh Kumar doesn’t resign, cockroaches from across India will march to Delhi & protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10,” Dipke said in a post on X, adding that the protest would be peaceful and urging citizens seeking free and fair elections to join it.
The CJP has demanded Kumar’s resignation and alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Dipke also called for criminal proceedings against the CEC, restoration of electoral rolls to their pre-2024 status and changes to the law governing the appointment of Election Commissioners.
Addressing the Mumbai gathering, Dipke alleged that large-scale voter deletions had affected electoral outcomes and questioned the functioning of the Election Commission.
These allegations have been rejected by the poll panel, which has maintained that its decisions on the SIR exercise were taken unanimously and according to established procedures.
The Shivaji Park protest was attended by several public figures, including actors Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi and musician Vishal Dadlani.
The CJP has indicated that its campaign will also extend to other cities before the proposed October 10 demonstration in Delhi.
