Seven people lost their lives and Four others were injured after a cloudburst struck a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district amid heavy overnight rains, according to media reports.
Officials said the incident occurred in Jod Ghati, Rajbagh area, during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, snapping access to the village and damaging land and property, PTI reported.
A joint team of police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been rushed to the spot and is currently engaged in rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the downpour triggered landslides in Bagard and Changda villages under the jurisdiction of Kathua police station, as well as in the Dilwan-Hutli area of Lakhanpur police station. Authorities added that the extent of damage is yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, multiple flash flood incidents were reported in Mandi district at Panarsa, Takoli and Nagwain areas along the Mandi–Kullu stretch of the Chandigarh–Manali National Highway.
Connectivity on the highway has been blocked at several points. There has been no report of human loss in the incidents, said Sachin Hiremath, ASP, Mandi.
