Indian Coast Guard chief Rakesh Pal died of a cardiac arrest at a government hospital in Chennai on Sunday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh condoled his demise and wrote in a message that Director General Pal was “an able and committed officer”.
According to reports, Pal developed a chest pain when he was in discussion with officials regarding preparations for Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Chennai. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but stopped responding to the treatment later in the evening and died.
Rakesh Pal had taken charge as the 25th Director General of the ICG on July 19 last year.
Rakesh Pal was an alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy and had a distinguished career spanning over 34 years. He joined the Indian Coast Guard in January 1989. Over the years, he rose to become the 25th Director General of the ICG, a position he held since July 2023.
