Date:

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the state is COVID-19 ‘free’.

These remarks came after the second patient being treated for the virus tested negative. The 65-year-old patient is suspected to have contacted the virus after attending the Tablighi Jamaat event in New Delhi in March.

The patient is expected to be released after conducting the second test during which it is mandatory for him to test negative.

The CM said in a tweet that Manipur is now Corona free.

The state reported its first case after a 23-year-old student tested positive after she returned to the state from London.

Earlier, the Goa also declared itself free of the virus.

However, experts have cautioned against any sort of urgency being displayed by the states in declaring themselves free of the virus. They have warned and urged the government to have proper audit mechanisms before certifying a state as free of the virus.
