Day After Arrest By ED, Hemant Soren Sent To One-Day Judicial Custody

Date:

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and former chief minister, Hemant Soren, was sent to one-day judicial custody on Thursday until the next hearing tomorrow.

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) had asked for 10 days remand of the former CM. After hearing both sides, the Special Judge of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court, Justice Dinesh Rai, kept February 2 for further hearing and order.

Soren was arrested by ED on Wednesday night after six hours of questioning in the money laundering case linked to the alleged land scam.

According to ED, the probe pertains to huge amounts of proceeds of crime generated by forging official records by showing “fake sellers” and purchasers in the guise of forged or bogus documents to acquire huge parcels of land valued in crores.
