Authorities have implemented Stage 1 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across New Delhi and the NCR region after air quality slipped into the “poor” category.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) took the step as pollution levels showed a rising trend, driven by unfavourable weather conditions. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 226, placing it firmly in the poor range.
According to the CAQM, the situation is likely to persist in the coming days. Citing forecasts from the India Meteorological Department, officials said air quality in Delhi and nearby areas is expected to remain in the same category for at least the next two days.
The enforcement of GRAP-1 brings in initial pollution control measures aimed at preventing further deterioration in air quality. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as conditions remain unfavourable.
