Beyond pollution, the Chief Minister also focused on Delhi’s disaster preparedness. On Wednesday, she chaired a separate meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) alongside Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, where they assessed the city’s vulnerability to natural disasters and discussed action plans for earthquakes, urban flooding, and extreme heat events.
A key concern was the city’s readiness for heatwaves and monsoon flooding, both of which have disrupted Delhi’s infrastructure and public life in recent years. To counter these challenges, the meeting outlined several crucial interventions, including:
- Strengthening drainage systems to prevent waterlogging
- Ensuring adequate water supply during heatwaves
- Expanding flood management infrastructure
- Upgrading disaster response mechanisms
The Lieutenant Governor stressed the need for immediate action, urging officials to fast-track land allocation for disaster management projects. He also called on the Chief Minister to resolve logistical hurdles that had slowed progress under previous administrations.
To ensure preparedness, officials were directed to present a detailed, actionable plan within a month, well ahead of summer 2025. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) pledged its support in modernizing the DDMA and setting up a Crisis Control Center (CCC) to streamline emergency response.
