New Delhi: A 19-year-old man, Rahul Meena, has been arrested for allegedly raping, strangling, and killing a 22-year-old woman, the daughter of a senior IRS officer, inside her South Delhi home on Wednesday morning.
According to police, Meena, a former domestic help at the residence, used his knowledge of the family’s routine and house layout to gain entry around 6:30 am. He reportedly knew the house key was kept in a shoe rack and that the victim’s parents would be away at the gym.
CCTV footage shows him entering the premises and going to the victim’s terrace study room, where she was preparing for the UPSC exam. He allegedly attempted to sexually assault her, strangled her when she resisted, and struck her with a lamp and a heavy object, rendering her unconscious before committing the crime.
Investigators said Meena also attempted robbery, dragging the victim to another room to unlock a biometric locker using her fingerprint. After it failed, he allegedly stole cash and jewellery using tools, changed clothes, and fled.
He was arrested from a hotel in Dwarka. Police said he was addicted to online gaming and gambling and had recently raped another woman in Alwar before travelling to Delhi.
The victim, an IIT graduate and former school topper from DPS RK Puram, was preparing for civil services exams.
Police are investigating both rape and murder charges.
