New Delhi: In a remarkable tale of medical breakthrough, a 45-year-old painter, who tragically lost both hands in a train accident in 2020, has regained both his hands thanks to the groundbreaking efforts of a team of Delhi doctors and the generous organ donation pledge of a woman. This marks the first successful bilateral hand transplant in Delhi’s medical history.
Meena Mehta, former administrative head of a prominent South Delhi school, who was decleared brain-dead, became the beacon of hope for multiple lives through her selfless decision to donate her organs. Among the beneficiaries, her hands found a new purpose as they were transplanted onto the arms of the painter.

The transformative surgery, orchestrated by the medical team at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, meticulously connected every artery, muscle, tendon, and nerve between the donor’s hands and the recipient’s arms over a grueling 12-hour procedure.
