The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its second list of 29 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. With this announcement, the BJP has now named candidates for 58 of the 70 constituencies, ahead of the crucial February 5 vote.

Among the notable candidates is former MLA Kapil Mishra, who will contest from Karawal Nagar, while sitting MLA Abhay Verma has been fielded again from the Lakshmi Nagar constituency. The BJP has also announced Harish Khurana, the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana, as its candidate for Moti Nagar.
Another notable candidate is Neelam Pahalwan, who will contest from Najafgarh, a seat previously held by Kailash Gahlot, a former AAP minister. Gahlot, who defected to the BJP last year after a fallout with AAP leadership, had been announced as the BJP’s candidate from Bijwasan.
As the elections approach, the BJP is focusing on upstaging the AAP, which has enjoyed a dominant position in Delhi’s politics since its resounding victories in the 2015 and 2020 Assembly elections. Despite securing victories in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where it swept all seven seats in Delhi, the BJP has faced significant challenges in translating this success to the Assembly polls. In the last two Assembly elections, the party secured only three seats in 2015 and eight in 2020.
