Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory Ahead Of Independence Day

Date:

Delhi Traffic Police has released an advisory ahead of the full dress rehearsal for Independence Day, scheduled for August 13. To ensure the smooth conduct of the rehearsal, several major roads across the city will be closed to traffic, and restrictions will be in place from 4 am to 11 am on that day.

Eight major roads, including Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road, and its Link Road, will be completely shut down. The Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT and the Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover will also be inaccessible during the rehearsal hours.

In addition to the road closures, the advisory cautions vehicles without parking labels to avoid several key areas. These include prominent locations such as C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, and BSZ Marg. The restrictions also extend to JL Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass.

Commuters traveling between north and south Delhi are advised to use alternative routes. These include Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, SPM Marg, 11 Murti, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Mandir Marg, Panchkuian Road, and Rani Jhansi Road.

For those using the east-west corridor, traffic will be redirected to routes such as NH-24, Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapula Road, Mathura Road, Subramania Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Prithviraj Road, and Safdarjung Road. The Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will also be closed.

The advisory highlights that while certain bridges and flyways, like the DND Flyway, NH-24 (NH-9), Yudhister Setu, Signature Bridge, and Wazirabad Bridge, will remain open for access to the Ring Road, the movement of goods vehicles between Nizamuddin and Wazirabad bridges will be restricted from midnight on August 12 until 11 am on August 13. Inter-state buses will also be barred from operating between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT during this period.

City buses, including those operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), will face restrictions on the Ring Road from midnight on August 12 until 11 am on August 13. Buses traveling between ISBT and NH-24 (NH-9) on Ring Road are advised to take alternate routes. Buses coming from different parts of the city intending to use Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Tilak Marg, Subash Marg, and Ring Road between Akhara Chandgi Ram and Hazrat Nizamuddin Bridge should avoid these routes and opt for alternative paths.

The advisory also includes guidelines for attendees of the Independence Day function, advising them not to bring certain items such as cameras, binoculars, remote control car keys, umbrellas, handbags, briefcases, transistors, cigarette lighters, tiffin boxes, water bottles, or lunch boxes.

Additionally, the flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms, including paragliders, para-motors, hang gliders, UAVs, micro-light aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, quadcopters, or para-jumping from aircraft, is strictly prohibited over Delhi’s jurisdiction until August 15.
