Bengaluru: Congress leader DK Shivakumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday at Lok Bhavan, ending a week-long leadership tussle within the party.
He took the oath of office holding a copy of the Constitution, in the presence of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, and invoked spiritual leader Gangadhar Ajja during the ceremony.
The swearing-in, held at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, was attended by senior Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. Reports indicated that the new government may adopt a formula of two to three deputy chief ministers, with around 10 to 13 ministers expected in the initial cabinet.
Senior leaders G Parameshwara, KH Muniyappa, KJ George, MB Patil, and Ramalinga Reddy were also sworn in, strengthening the first Council of Ministers under Shivakumar’s leadership.
Parameshwara took oath invoking Dr BR Ambedkar, while Muniyappa and others joined the cabinet as part of the initial batch of ministers.
The formation of the new government marks the end of the Congress leadership transition process in Karnataka, with Shivakumar’s elevation formally beginning his tenure as Chief Minister.
