A massive search operation is underway in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district as authorities continue efforts to trace 23-year-old trekker Babita Pandey, who has been missing for 10 days after disappearing during a trek to Dayara Bugyal.
More than 120 personnel from multiple agencies, including the police, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, Forest Department, and mountaineering experts, have been deployed across the rugged terrain. Drone teams, sniffer dogs, local guides and disaster response units are combing forests, trekking trails, ravines and remote mountain stretches in a bid to locate the missing woman.
Babita was reportedly trekking with two friends after visiting several tourist destinations in the region. The group reached Raithal village before beginning the trek to Dayara Bugyal on May 29. Investigators say she was last seen at Goi Base Camp, where the trio spent the night before she mysteriously vanished.
The case has taken a new turn with police questioning Babita’s two companions as part of the investigation. Authorities are examining all possible angles, including personal disputes and inconsistencies in statements.
Meanwhile, tourism officials have flagged alleged irregularities in the trek arrangements. Preliminary findings suggest the trekkers did not possess valid permits issued through the official portal. A local trekking agency is now facing action after allegedly using forged documents to facilitate the expedition.
As search teams continue round-the-clock operations, officials have appealed to locals, trekkers and visitors to share any information that could help solve the mystery surrounding Babita’s disappearance.
