A day of leisure turned into a tragedy when eight young men drowned in the Banas river in Rajasthan’s Tonk district on Tuesday. The victims, all aged between 25 and 30, had travelled from Jaipur for a picnic, according to police officials.
Tonk Superintendent of Police Vikas Sangwan confirmed the incident, stating that a group of 11 men had entered the river for a bath when several of them accidentally slipped into deeper water. While three men were rescued and are currently in stable condition, eight others could not be saved.
The exact circumstances leading to the accident remain unclear, and authorities are investigating how the group lost footing in what appeared to be a calm stretch of the river.
The deceased, all friends, had arrived from Jaipur earlier in the day to enjoy a picnic by the riverside. Their sudden demise has left families and friends in shock, and a pall of gloom has descended over their locality in Jaipur.
