Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s official account on X (formerly Twitter) was briefly compromised on Sunday, officials confirmed.
The breach saw hackers posting visuals featuring the flags of Pakistan and Turkey — coinciding with the day India and Pakistan faced off in their second Asia Cup match.
“We immediately alerted the cybercrime police. Our team responsible for managing the Deputy CM’s X handle later regained control of the account,” an official said.
According to the official, the hackers also live-streamed images showcasing symbols of the two nations during the takeover.
“It took about 30 to 45 minutes to restore the account to normalcy,” the official added.
Authorities said a probe has been launched to trace the perpetrators behind the breach.
