The election commission announces the schedule for assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.
All regional and national parties in Jammu and Kashmir welcomed the decision to hold the Assembly elections in line with the directions of SC.
At a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, “Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases; voting on September 18th, September 25th, and October 1st. Counting of votes will take place on October 4.”
For Haryana, Rajiv Kumar said that the state will go to polls on October 1 and the counting of votes will be done on Oct 4.
The legislative assembly terms for Haryana and Maharashtra are ending on November 3 and November 26, respectively. The poll body had planned to hold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir before September 30.
Previously, at least for the last three elections since 2009, the EC has conducted polls in Maharashtra and Haryana together, as their terms end within a month of each other.
EC visited Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana recently to take a stalk of the poll preparedness but is yet to visit Maharashtra.
