Assembly Election Results 2026: BJP Surges in Bengal, TVK Shakes Up Tamil Nadu

Date:

Counting of votes is underway across Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal and Puducherry following a high-intensity campaign, with early trends throwing up major political surprises.

Initial trends indicate a strong surge by the BJP in West Bengal, while actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as a major force in Tamil Nadu, delivering a breakthrough performance in its debut election.

In Assam, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is on course to secure a third consecutive term, maintaining a steady lead as counting progresses. Meanwhile, in Puducherry, the NDA is also leading comfortably, pointing to a favourable outcome for the alliance.

Early updates from the Election Commission of India show fluctuating leads across constituencies, with counting beginning with postal ballots before moving to Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) rounds.

Tamil Nadu and Kerala continue to witness closely fought contests, with shifting trends keeping the final outcome uncertain as more rounds of counting are completed.

The results from these five regions are set to significantly reshape the political landscape, with both national and regional parties battling for dominance as the day unfolds.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is dominating early trends in Tamil Nadu, with his party TVK leading in a massive 110 seats in the 234-member Assembly.

According to the Election Commission of India, the ADMK is trailing with 57 seats, while the DMK stands at 48 seats.

Other parties are trailing behind, with PMK at 5 seats and Congress at 4, while CPI(M), CPI, and VCK have secured 2 seats each. Smaller players such as BJP, IUML, DMDK, and AMMK are registering leads in one seat each.

With the majority mark set at 118, TVK now stands just 8 seats away, placing Vijay on the brink of a landmark victory in his very first electoral outing.

Omar Abdullah’s Two-Word Reaction Captures Bengal and Tamil Nadu Upsets

Omar Abdullah reacted sharply to the dramatic election trends emerging from across states, as the BJP surged towards a landslide victory in West Bengal and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) delivered a stunning performance in Tamil Nadu.

Responding to the developments, Abdullah summed up the situation in just two words: “Bloody hell.”

His remark came at a time when the BJP was gaining significant ground in West Bengal, while TVK crossed the 100-seat mark and moved closer to the majority figure of 117 in Tamil Nadu.

The reaction quickly gained traction online, triggering a wave of responses, memes, and political commentary from users. Visuals and reactions reflecting the charged atmosphere of the ongoing counting process flooded social media platforms.

As counting continues across states, the unexpected scale of the BJP’s surge in Bengal and TVK’s rise in Tamil Nadu has turned the election into one of the most talked-about political developments of the day.
