New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue Court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday regarding the bail petitions of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Excise Policy money laundering case. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja scheduled a detailed hearing for June 1, 2024, and instructed the ED to submit a comprehensive reply in the interim.
Appearing for the ED, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju requested at least two days to respond, stating that he had just received a copy of the bail petitions.
Raju argued, “There are some submissions to be made. Word used is “will surrender”. There’s lot of supression which has to be brought to notice. He’s campaigning in Punjab. his health did not hinder him from campaigning. strenuous campaigning has been done. Last minute bail is being filed. His conduct doesn’t entitle him to any bail.”
Kejriwal, through his legal team, has filed two different bail applications before the concerned court. His legal team stated that the first application is for regular bail in the Enforcement Directorate’s case, while the second is an interim bail application seeking a seven-day extension on medical grounds.
Earlier on May 10, Kejriwal was granted interim bail by Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, with the directive to surrender to Tihar jail by June 2. Following this, on May 17, the bench reserved its verdict on his challenge to the validity of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the Excise Policy money laundering case.
Kejriwal was arrested by ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering probe relating to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22.
