The Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), led by Sukhbir Khalifa, announced on Sunday that its members would begin their march tomorrow. This move is expected to intensify pressure on the government as other farmer organizations, including the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM, non-political), have also planned marches starting December 6.
Sarwan Singh Pandhair, General Secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC), confirmed that farmers protesting at the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana would join the December 6 march. Their key demands include the implementation of a guaranteed MSP, along with other benefits.
The protests are a continuation of the farmers’ agitation against what they view as insufficient measures by the government. On October 26, farmers gathered in Sangrur’s Badhrukha district, protesting delayed paddy procurement. These demonstrations resulted in road blockades across Punjab, disrupting national highways in areas like Phagwara, Sangrur, Moga, and Batala.
Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyan Singh Rana has dismissed the protests, calling the upcoming marches unwarranted.
