Federeal Bank Skill Academy launched

Coimbatore, Sep 16 (PTI) Federeal Bank today launchedits Skill Academy in the city, the second in the country afterKochi. The academy will initially provide an in-demand CNCMachine Operator course in milling and turning, which will becertified by city-based CoIndia, cluster development projectbacked by both the Centre and State government, with majorindustries in the area, the Bank Chief General Manager andHead, Network II, D Sampath told reporters on the sidelines ofthe launch. The initiative will facilitate underprivileged studentsto successfully complete the 3-month course that make thememployable for opportunitites both in India and Abroad,Sampath said. Stating that the initiative was part of the Bank’sCorporate Social Responsibility (CSR), he said that 120students will be trained in the first batch, which would bescaled up in the near future, considering the demand. When asked about the funding, Sampath said that withinfrastructure and lab facilities, the bank will incur aninvestment of Rs one crore in the first year. Students of 18-25 years of age, who have passed plus 2,ITI/polytechnic/ Degree or Engineering drop out and whoseannual family income does not exceed Rs two lakh, can applyfor the course, he said. The Kochi academy has already trained 90 persons, whoare already placed and another 90 are undergoing training,Chairman of SB Global Education Centre, Balachandran, theimplementing partner for thuis project, said adding that theBank will open such an academy in Bihar, location for which isbeing identified.
