India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is in Kathmandu for a two-day visit, part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with Nepal, a neighbour India considers vital for regional stability and cooperation.

Misri landed in Kathmandu on Sunday morning on a special Indian Air Force flight and was received by Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and the Indian Ambassador to Nepal. Shortly after, he met Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli at his Office. He will also meet senior leaders including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

According to statements from both governments, the discussions will focus on practical areas like connectivity, energy projects, development cooperation and other issues shaping day-to-day ties between the two neighbours. The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi called the visit part of its “Neighbourhood First” policy, while Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said the goal is to push forward partnership and review recent developments.
