A special forces jawan of the Indian Army was killed and three others were injured in a fierce gunbattle with terrorists in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. The encounter occurred in the Keshwan forest area, just a few kilometers from where the bullet-riddled bodies of two village defense guards (VDGs), Nazir Ahmad and Kuldeep Kumar, were discovered last week.
The firefight broke out around 11 a.m. when joint teams from the Army and local police engaged militants in the forested area. The Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed that the operation was launched based on intelligence reports that suggested the presence of terrorists in the Bhart Ridge area.
Taking to X (Formerly Twitter), the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Knight Corps, along with all ranks, paid tribute to Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar of 2 Para (Special Forces), who made the supreme sacrifice during a joint Counter-Insurgency (CI) operation.
