A barbaric terrorist attack in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir has left several tourists dead and many more injured, sparking widespread outrage across the country. The incident, which took place in the heart of the picturesque tourist town, drew swift and strong reactions from political leaders at the national level, all condemning the senseless violence and expressing solidarity with the victims’ families.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to respond to the tragic incident, offering his condolences and promising that those responsible for the attack would be held accountable. “Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice…they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger,” he said in a post on X.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the attack as a deeply shocking and inhumane act, expressing his utter disbelief. “I’m shocked beyond belief. This attack on our visitors is an abomination. The perpetrators of this attack are animals, inhuman & worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough. I send my sympathies to the families of the deceased,” Abdullah wrote.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday condemned the terror attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam and said the perpetrators would face the harshest consequences. He added that he would be visiting Srinagar to hold a security review meeting.

President Droupadi Murmu, too, expressed her shock and heartbreak over the attack, calling it “a dastardly and inhuman act. “The terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir is shocking and painful. It is a dastardly and inhuman act which must be condemned unequivocally,” she shared in a post on X.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar called the attack “cowardly” and offering his sympathies to the victims’ families. “Condemn the cowardly terror attack in Pahalgam. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. Pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he tweeted.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi voiced his concern, calling the attack both “heartbreaking” and “condemnable.” Gandhi expressed his deepest condolences to the victims’ families and urged the government to take concrete steps to prevent such violence in the future.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his grief, labeling the attack as a cowardly act of terrorism. “Deeply anguished by the news of terrorist attack in Pahalgam (Jammu & Kashmir). This dastardly attack on innocent civilians is an act of cowardice and highly reprehensible,” he said.
