G20 Summit: Traffic Movements, Curbs, Tourist Smart Cards; Find All The Details

New Delhi: As the national capital is gearing up for the G20 leaders’ summit scheduled from September 9 to September 10, the authorities have put several arrangements and security curbs in place in coordination with the DMRC and the traffic police to ensure the smooth flow of traffic for the delegates and the tourists who will be visiting New Delhi during the summit.

Starting with the markets, since the venue for the summit is Bharat Mandapam, all the establishments in the New Delhi area will be closed for the two days of the summit.

As far as the theaters and restaurants are concerned, these establishments in the controlled area of the New Delhi district will also remain closed.

Even the delivery services will not be allowed during the summit period. However, grocery, ATMs, medical stores will remain opened even in the regulated zones.

At the same time movements of cars, vehicles and bicycles has been restricted in the controlled zone during the summit duration. Also, for people travelling from Delhi to Gurgaon using NH 48, will be diverted to alternates routes.

Well this was all about the restrictions and curbs, but the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has also set up special G20 counters at select Metro stations across its network that will issue its ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ from September 4 to 13.

Number Of Counters

These dedicated G20 counters have been set up at 36 Metro stations.

The stations where dedicated smart card counters have been set are: Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, Jor Bagh, Dilli Haat-INA, Lal Quila (Red Fort), Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate, ITO, Mandi House, Janpath, Khan Market, JLN Stadium, Jangpura, Lajpat Nagar, Barakhamba Road, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Jhandewalan, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, South Extension, Sarojini Nagar, Chhatarpur, Qutub Minar, Hauz Khas, Nehru Place, Kalkaji Mandir, Akshardham, Terminal 1 IGI Airport and Karol Bagh Metro stations, except for the Airport Express Line.

We all know how very well connected the Delhi Metro is. Now using these tourist cards, people can cover all the major attractions of the national capital like Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Akshardham Temple easily.

Who All Are Eligible For The Tourist Card?

The answer is anyone. Right from the local public, the delegates, to the tourists,anyone who is seeking to explore the city, it’s major attractions can avail these cards from the set counters anytime during the day. Using this card one can travel from the very first station of a network to the last station without any hassle.

Types And Charges Of Cards:

There are two types of tourist cards: First is a one day validity card that will cost Rs 200, the second one is a three day validity card that will cost Rs 500. But, both the amounts also include a refundable security deposit of Rs 50.
