Gurugram Hit-And-Run: Accused Admits Fault, Denies Deliberately Hitting Biker

Date:

Gurugram: The man accused of hitting a woman biker with his car on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road has admitted that the collision was his fault but denied deliberately hitting her, claiming that he lost control of the vehicle near a U-turn.

Kalyan Bainsla, a gym owner who describes himself as an international kabaddi player, said he was travelling with his sister and two cousins when the incident occurred between 7 am and 8 am on Sunday.

Bainsla claimed that a group of around 20-22 motorcyclists passed his vehicle and said he had asked the woman biker and another rider to slow down. He denied making any gestures towards the woman or intentionally hitting her.

According to Bainsla, the woman was turning without checking her mirrors when he lost control of the car near a U-turn, resulting in the collision. He admitted that the accident was his fault but said he left the spot fearing that the bikers would attack him and his family.

The woman, identified as Siya in her social media posts, has alleged that the car followed her group before the incident and that its occupants misbehaved with her. She further alleged that the car struck her motorcycle while overtaking. The collision was captured on a camera mounted on her bike, with the footage showing her being knocked off the motorcycle and dragged several metres.

Siya’s father alleged that the incident was deliberate and said the matter also raised concerns over women’s safety. He said the family would approach the police seeking strict action.

The car is registered in the name of Manish, who told police that he was not driving it at the time and that Bainsla had borrowed the vehicle.

Gurugram Police has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and is registering a case under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving and causing injury. Police said the accused had been identified and three special teams were formed to apprehend him.
